 Freedman Foods Wins TCFA Beef Merchandiser Award

               Saying they are a " Texas company with national reach," Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA) Chairman Charlie Sellers today awarded the TCFA Beef Merchandiser Award to Freedman Meats of Dallas. 
            The TCFA Beef Merchandiser Award is presented annually to a company or individual who has done an outstanding job promoting and merchandising beef and meeting consumer demands. 
            "Chances are," Sellers told the nearly 500 cattle feeders in attendance at the association's annual convention in Grapevine, "most of you haven't heard of Freedman Meats.  But if you've dined at Chili's, El Chico, Saltgrass Steakhouse, Landry's and many other national chains, you've enjoyed the results of what Freedman Meats is all about."  In addition, Sellers said the company serves many local and regional fine dining establishments. 
            "Freedman Meats works closely with the Texas Beef Council and was among the first in the industry to promote the new value cuts from the chuck, such as the flat iron," Sellers said.  "They take pride in moving the whole animal.  While others in food service focus on the loin and rib cuts, they take pride in also selling briskets, the chuck, round, ground beef, short ribs and other cuts."
            But they do more than just sell beef, according to Sellers.  "They also take a lot of pride in the innovative product development work they do.  Developing Certified Angus Beef/Prime flat iron steaks for high-profile steakhouses, using part of the chuck for skewered beef, and developing a bottom sirloin specialty product for Asian concepts like the Big Bowl and Shanghai Circus are some examples of how the company has stepped up and made an impact on consumer demand for beef." 
            Freedman Meats is part of the Sysco Meat Group and has five facilities - Dallas , Houston , San Antonio , Harlingen , and a new location in Denver .  "Of those facilities, two are among the top five Certified Angus Beef (CAB) distributors and the combined volume of all CAB products from their facilities ranks them among the top distributors of CAB in the world," Sellers said.
            "Freedman Meats is a great example of what being the best of the best in beef merchandising is about," Sellers said.  "We're pleased to recognize them with this award."
