TCFA NAMES SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

             The Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA), during its 2004 Annual Convention in San Antonio , recognized 11 area college students who received scholarships this year from the TCFA Education Foundation. 

            The TCFA Education Foundation assists graduate students who attend college in Cattle Feeding Country and intend to pursue a career in cattle feeding.  Since 1993, the TCFA Education Foundation has helped 42 graduate students reach their goals. 

            This spring, five students received scholarships totaling $8,500.  They were Cassie Abney, a Ph.D. candidate at Texas Tech University ; Lindsey Chichester, a Ph.D. candidate at West Texas A&M University ; Tanya Covey, a master's student at New Mexico State University ; David James Kunze, II, a master's student at West Texas A&M University ; and Tammy Platt, a master's student at West Texas A&M University . 

In August, the TCFA Education Foundation presented another six scholarships totaling $6,000.  They were Deidrea Harris, a master's student at Texas Tech University ; Gary Marek, a master's student at West Texas A&M University ; Julio Cesar Silva, a master's student at West Texas A&M University ; Missy Teague, a master's student at Texas Tech University ; Judson Vasconselos, a Ph.D. candidate at Texas A&M University ; and Justin Waggoner, a Ph.D. candidate at New Mexico State University.   

The TCFA Education Foundation is pleased to be able to help these deserving students attain their degrees," said TCFA President & CEO Richard McDonald.  "The cattle feeding industry will be repaid many times over by their contributions to our knowledge and ability to produce the best beef in the world."
