TCFA EDUCATION FOUNDATION AWARDS

FIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA) Education Foundation has awarded scholarships to five college students to help them complete research projects in cattle feeding. In all, the scholarships totaled $9,500.

The five students are Amanda Arata of Hereford, an undergraduate at West Texas A&M University in Canyon; Paul Defoor of Lubbock, a Ph.D. candidate at Texas Tech University; Kelly Ellis, a master's student at West Texas A&M University; Damon George, a master's student at West Texas A&M University; and Kevin McBride, a master's student at Texas A&M University.

All five students are involved in cattle feeding research through the Consortium for Cattle Feeding and Environmental Sciences. The consortium is comprised of faculty from Texas A&M University, West Texas A&M University, USDA, Texas Tech University and New Mexico State University. The research will be conducted in Amarillo, Canyon and Bushland, Texas.

"The TCFA Education Foundation dedicates its scholarship funds to students who need financial assistance and who have demonstrated a desire to pursue employment in cattle feeding," said TCFA President and CEO Richard McDonald. "This works well because it allows us to fund research that will bring positive benefits to cattle feeders while helping students who will graduate to become involved in our industry."
